I have been watching couple of tap dancers learning to do ballet. Yet instead of learning the art of ballet they have been mocking the tip-toeing, wearing of tutu, and all that spinning and spinning. Hoping one day that ballet people would wake up and see how backwards the art of ballet is. Hoping that ballet people would discard their ballet shoes and deary classical music. Hoping that ballet dancers would change to wearing tapping shoes, dancing to jazz........great, now we can do ballet.... our way.

Comparing Italian opera to CHinese opera is like comparing Italy to China, anything Italian to that of CHinese. quite a futile exercise. Try to understand what HCinese opera is and realise and accept that it is another form of music that has its own uniqueness. Wanting to change the whole basis of Chinese opera just to suit one's own vocal characteristics is a bit.......um..

Vincent,
strange it may seem I really go along with your idea in no 30. I was brought up with western music until i get involved with CHinese opera few years ago.
I know you still not accepting the fact that the co music was and still is written around the "C" key. It would be difficult for people to sing the 'bong wong' if they are to be sung in different keys. There are attempts already made to write so called 'new' bong wong but it is still difficult to get too far away from the traditional structure or notes.

If the leader is tuned to C20 all other instruments would be tuned to the same. Many instruments can be retuned quickly but it is impractical for the yeung kam to be retuned in a jiffy. That is why i see no possibility for anyone to choose his or her keys at the drop of a hat in any club.

The fact that any band can be tuned to C, C10, C20, C50, C#, D...this explains why you cannot play different keys in a co band like a piano etc western instruments. There are virtuosos in any band but if you go around enough you will agree with me and dai fu that a lot of musicians cannot play anything but C or G.

By the way
